In the darkest, coldest part of winter, my sewing machine’s hum kept the winter blues away. And now that spring is here and the snow is gone, I have brightened up my home and my PrettyhandmadeDesign Etsy shop. If you’re just here for the giveaway scroll on down to the bottom for the details. But for those of you who love a good little makeover story, hang with me. Continue reading
February was a bustling month for us and flew right on by. I’m so glad it’s March what with all the lion and lamb talk. February heard me say that January was pretty mild and smacked us right in the … Continue reading
Life has been bustling around here. The past month has just flown by. Here are some of the highlights: 1 – Chris strung up a clothesline for me outside. I had been able to avoid turning on the dryer, but … Continue reading
The past few days have seen a huge bump in getting some unpacking and re-organizing done around the house. Thursday was the Great Table Shuffle of 2014. My cousin David and his wife Beth were getting rid of their dining … Continue reading
One of the good things to come from our big move is that we’re now much closer to Aldi. As in it’s actually convenient to go to Aldi and get the majority of our weekly groceries. It’s liberating to not have to think about coupons at all. So with the increase in our Aldi usage I’m going to use my first ‘Five Favorites’ to share what we’ve found to be awesome.
This comes with the disclaimer that obviously these are my opinions, everyone has the things that they are particular about when it comes to groceries. I don’t really care if it’s organic or not. I just try to pick foods that are less processed and have a short list of ingredients, all of which I can recognize. And with that, here we go:
1 – The quart size containers of plain and vanilla greek yogurt. I’m a yogurt snob and I love these!
2 – Fruit Muesli – $2.99 – The dried fruit in it is fantastic. It makes my morning bran cereal go from ‘bleh, I hate healthy cereal’ to ‘I can’t wait for my daily bowl of cereal!’ Oh, and it’s a great way to sneak in extra fiber to my diet.
3 – Pepper jack cheese – This store brand pepper jack is actually made from real jack cheese, not pasteurized cheese product. I’ve found that many other stores’ brands of pepper jack cheese are not made from real cheese and that’s why it’s cheaper, folks. Get real cheese for cheaper at Aldi.
4 – Tortilla chips – Chips and salsa are a staple in Casa de los Mikes. We’ve eaten many a brands of tortilla chips and the verdict is in: Aldi’s is our favorite. We’re partial to the rounds.
5 – Sweet Home Farm Granola – combine with #1 and some fresh blueberries from the produce section and that’s half my lunch! I prefer the Honey Nut.
Bonus round! – For those fortunate to live in a state where Aldi sells wine and beer (woot! MI!). We’ve tasted many of their wines and our favorite is Winking Owl Cabernet Savignon – a steal at $2.89.
Anyone else want to chime in with some of their grocery store favorites?
BTW in putting together this post I found that Aldi has a blog too. Really?!?
Linking up with Heather and the rest of the Favorites.
